Transitions at the ESCR-Net Secretariat and Meeting of the ESCR-Net Board

After five years with ESCR-Net, Rebecca Brown has accepted an exciting new position as the Global Advocacy Director at the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR). Rebecca will be deeply missed as the long-time coordinator of the Women and ESCR Working Group.  However, CRR is an ESCR-Net Member and consistent member of the Women and ESCR Working Group, so we are very glad to be able to continue to work with Rebecca in a new capacity.  In addition, we are grateful for Rebecca’s support and program management as Deputy Director over the past year, including serving as ESCR-Net’s point person on extra-territorial obligations and supporting our newest Working Group on Monitoring of ESCR.

This said, we are also happy to announce that Graciela Dede, an active member of the Women and ESCR Working Group since 2008, has agreed to ensure ongoing coordination of work on Women and ESCR, as a part-time program advisor over the next several months.  With the support of Graciela and other members of the Working Group, including Rebecca, our hope is to hire a full-time program officer to coordinate this work in the near future.  Please feel free to be in contact with Graciela, at: WESCR@escr-net.org.  In addition, Dominic Renfrey (drenfrey@escr-net.org), who has helped to facilitate work on extra-territorial obligations, will begin to represent ESCR-Net Members on the ETO Consortium Steering Committee.  Thea Gelbspan (tgelbspan@escr-net.org) will support the coordination of the Working Group on Monitoring of ESCR.

Finally, from April 3-4, we held the first meeting of our newly elected Board in New York City.  In the coming weeks, we will look forward to sharing the outcomes of this meeting, as well as updates on the multiple areas of collective work across the Network.
