First regional hearing of the IACHR about ESCR of people living in urban shantytowns in the Americas

Habitat International Coalition América Latina (HIC-AL, www.hic-al.org), the Asociación Civil por la Igualdad y la Justicia (ACIJ,www.acij.org.ar) and the Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales (CELS, www.cels.org.ar), supported by 29 organizations (including Fundar, Instituto Polis, Terra de Direitos and Espacio DESC) and movements working for the observance of human rights and improvement of housing in Latin America, prompted a thematic regional hearing of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to discuss issues concerning the situation of Economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR) of people living in urban shantytowns in the Americas.

The IACHR reported that, as part of its 154th regular session, has decided to give a thematic regional hearing to discuss issues concerning the situation of Economic, social and cultural rights of the inhabitants of urban neighborhoods in the Americas to be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Ruben Dario Room, located on the 8th floor of the GSB Building of the Organization of American States in Washington DC City.
