The Human Rights Centre seeks to support a community of researchers in the area of human rights law and to encourage cooperation with other academic and human rights institutions. Our ultimate aims are to produce scholarship of international excellence and to promote understanding of human rights.

The Human Rights Centre was established by the School of Law at Queen's University Belfast in 1990 with the aim of consolidating and providing a focus for the School's expertise in human rights teaching and research. It has a membership drawn from the staff of the School, the School of Education, the Centre for the Study of Ethnic Conflict in the School of Politics and the Institute of Governance, Public Policy and Social Research. The Centre is based in the School of Law.
