Advancing women's substantive equality in the implementation of the SDGs

ESCR-Net's Women and ESCR Working Group, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations, is pleased to bring together women’s rights advocates from different regions of the world to discuss how the framework of women's economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR), incorporating a substantive equality approach, can be used to promote gender equality in the implementation and monitoring of the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The discussion will focus primarily on land, health and work, and new briefing papers analyzing these rights within the substantive equality framework will be launched.

The event will include a welcome from the Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations and ESCR-Net and an international panel of leading women’s rights advocates featuring Ximena Andión Ibáñez (Instituto de Liderazgo Simone de Beauvoir), Mayra Gomez (Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights), Charlene May (Legal Resources Centre) and Rebecca Brown (Center for Reproductive Rights). The panel will also include comments from Mr. Philip AlstonUN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights.
