The Programme on Women’s Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (PWESCR), recently published a report on BRICS, an acronym for a political/economic coalition involving Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and the need to form a feminist alliance from these specific countries. As a collective strength of feminist analysis and activism, they are able to combat male dominated field of economics.

The BRICS Feminist Watch (a subgroup of BRICS) has participated in meetings with New Development Bank (NBD) representatives in order to have a larger economical presence within their respective communities.

PWESCR undertook this research on behalf of BRICS Feminist Watch in order to bring a feminist analysis to multilateral banks and to larger issues of development finance which continue to be a challenge. One goal of this paper is to contribute to the ongoing struggles to strive for gender justice within these new structures and institutions.
