On January 4, 2014, more than fifty thousand Ogoni people from Niger Delta communities celebrated the 21st anniversary of the Ogoni struggle for justice (Ogoni Day).  The mobilization,  was organized by the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), and coincided with the launching of “Land in the Struggle for Justice: Social Movement Strategies to Secure Human Rights”, an ESCR-Net publication

The Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA), together with its 47 member organizations from 16 countries across Asia, issued an open letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia to denounce the suppression of public assemblies, including the fatal shooting of at least four individuals in an incident on 3 January 2014

Over ten thousand Ogonis including MOSOP activists marched on Bori, the Ogoni ancestral capital to commemorate the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples  and protest the failure of the Nigerian Government to implement the UNEP environmental assessment report on Ogoni two years after its official release.

The right to food is a fundamental human right, recognized in Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 11 of the and General Comment 12 of the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights. 

ESCR-Net member, Ekta Parishad, has achieved a massive victory. Just nine days after the launch of the Jansatyagraha, a historic march to demand a right to land and livelihood, the Government of India announced its acceptance of the movement’s key demands.

Ekta Parishad is mobilizing a 100,000 person march - the Jan Satyagraha - to claim land as a human rights, and are calling upon social movements and human rights advocates world wide to join them in a global movement to promote a right to land and livelihood.
