A Human Rights Response to the Economic Crisis in the US

It is clearly time to assess economic policy using the ethical lens of universally-recognized human rights standards. This panel will look at the impact of the economic crisis on the economic and social rights of people in the United States, and illustrate how a human rights framework is needed to analyze why the crisis was allowed to happen and what we can do about it.

Speakers include:

  • Representative from US Permanent Mission to the United Nations (TBC)
  • Radhika Balakrishan, Center for Women's Global Leadership, Rutgers University
  • José Schiffino, New York Civil Service Employees Union (CSEA)
  • Diana Salas, Women of Color Policy Network
  • Kali Akuno, US Human Rights Network
