Counting the costs of agricultural dumping

The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) published a brief report defining what agricultural dumping is and the negative effects it has on the world and its economy. It presents its findings and concludes that dumping is devastating for farmers in importing countries, especially in low-income countries with little power to defend their markets. This is one of many problems, and the IATP finds that the underlying need is for a new approach to global trade rules. The end goal of trade should be to protect food security at home, respect the complex relationship of food systems to economic development, and one that respects the importance of accountability in domestic politics in rich and poor countries alike.
