The International Day of Older Persons Event at the United Nations is coming up on Thursday, October 4, 2007, in an all-day session. It will be present the former Ambassador Julia Alvarez who took the lead on aging during her years representing the Dominican Republic at the United Nations. She led efforts to establish an International Day of Older Persons, the International Year of Older Persons and the World Assembly on Ageing in Madrid in 2002. Highlighting the event will be Reports from outstanding NGO’s on how they have put the Madrid Plan of Action on Ageing into practice in their countries. There will be speakers describing what’s happening in major regions of the world and what they’ve managed to accomplish over the past five years.
