In resolution 8/7, the Human Rights Council requested the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to organize a two day consultation, bringing together the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises, business representatives and all relevant stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations and representatives of victims of corporate abuse, to discuss ways and means to operationalize the "Protect, Respect, Remedy" framework on business and human rights put forward by  the Special Representative.

The consultation will feature multi-stakeholder panel discussions about selected topics related to each of the pillars of the Special Representative's framework. The agenda will reflect the work streams identified in the Special Representative's preliminary workplan (http://www.reports-and-materials.org/Ruggie-preliminary-work-plan-2008-2011.pdf).

The consultation has been scheduled for 5-6 October 2009 in Room XVIII at the Palais des Nations, United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland. It will be chaired jointly by Her Excellency Ms. Bente Angell-Hansen, Ambassador of Norway, and His Excellency Mr. Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, Ambassador of Nigeria.

All participants, but particularly those based outside Switzerland, are encouraged to read carefully the logistics note for the consultation posted on the website, including the procedure to apply for visas to Switzerland. The draft agenda for the consultation will be posted when available.

Participants to the consultation are welcome to make written submissions in advance of the consultation. Submissions will be posted on this website, but will not be translated or distributed by OHCHR during the consultation.
