International Bill of Human Rights

The International Bill of Human Rights consists of the five core human rights treaties of the United Nations that function to advance the fundamental freedoms and to protect the basic human rights of all people. The Bill influences the decisions and actions of Government, State and Non-State actors to make economic, social and cultural rights a top-priority in the formation and implementation of national, regional and international policy and law.    

The following five documents are the foundation of the International Bill of Human Rights:
1) Universal Declaration of Human Rights
2) International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
3) International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
4) Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
5) Second Optional Procotol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, aiming at the abolition of the death penalty
