Changing Development Inside Out: Feminist Participatory Action Research for Development Justice in the Asia and Pacific

Author(s):
APWLD

This report explores how Rural, indigenous, migrant, and urban poor (RIMUP) women in nine countries strengthened their fights against increased inequality and marginalization through a Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR). The program 'Changing Development Inside Out' was facilitated by the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD), a network of feminist organisations and advocates, between 2015 and 2017.

FPAR is a set of tools that grassroots women use to document injustice and inequality, to build momentum, and to bring about change. Accepting that all forms of knowledge and evidence are gendered, FPAR challenges existing power structures and norms that define whose knowledge is legitimate, and empowers marginalized women as experts in their own lives. Rooted in movement building, FPAR facilitates a space for women activists to learn, connect and amplify their struggles for social justice by monitoring and reflecting on their experiences, responses and needs.
