Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC)

Established in 1991, the Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC) is one of the leading organizations in Nepal working to prevent violence against women, its causes and consequences, and to ensure the economic, social and cultural well-being of women, as well as other marginalized groups, by promoting their access to rights and social justice. Guided by feminist values, WOREC believes that empowering women to control their body, sexuality and reproduction/production is key to enabling women to exercise their rights. WOREC seeks to ensure the rights of women and social justice through three campaigns: Violence Against Women, Sustainable Peace, and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR).

WOREC’s ESCR campaign aims to ensure the rights of women to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical, mental and reproductive health, right to food, right to work in freedom and right to mobility to maintain sustainable livelihood and dignified lives. The campaign is focused on making the state accountable for its actions in regards to its obligations under the International Covenant of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
