December 1, 2007: Call for submission of good practices on human rights education

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in cooperation with the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (ODIHR/OSCE), the Council of Europe and UNESCO, is developing a compendium of good practices in the area of human rights education in the primary and secondary school systems. In this regard, they are calling for submissions from all countries in the OSCE region.
The project is looking for practices undertaken by various actors (governments, national human rights institutions, NGOs, teacher training institutions etc.) which may include: a) the development of national policies, including legislation, plans of action, curricula, training policies and so on promoting a rights-based approach to education, as well as the adoption of measures to ensure consistent policy implementation; b)activities aiming at creating learning environments which respect and promote the human rights of all school actors; c) teaching and learning processes and tools which reflect human rights values, including the development of participatory teaching methodologies, as well as materials and textbooks; d) programmes aiming at the education and professional development of school personnel to enable them to transmit and model human rights values.
Submissions should be sent by 1 December 2007.
