Opportunity: Advanced Training on Monitoring ESCR (Geneva, May 6-10, 2013)

An Advanced Training on Monitoring Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from 6-10 May 2013. The training is organized by Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. The Academy is an educational institution based in Geneva which focuses on conducting research and running advanced courses on international human rights and humanitarian law.

The Academy is now inviting applications from advocacy/human rights/legal officers, members of the judiciary, journalists, public officials and diplomats, project managers, and researchers working in human rights organisations, domestic institutions, or in UN agencies and other international organizations. 

The training will cover topics regarding the tools to monitor ESCR, including indicators, human rights impact assessments, budget analysis,  identification of violations of ESCR, and strategic litigation for ESCR.  The organizers will also arrange sessions on the international mechanisms mandated to monitor the implementation of ESCR with a particular focus on the United Nations system, namely the UN Human Rights Council, UN Special Procedures and the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. There will also be a focus on building advocacy policies integrating mechanisms developed in the realm of the UN system for human rights protection.
