On March 4th, 2015, ESCR-Net’s Strategic Litigation Working Group and the Treaty Body Members’ Platform, hosted by the Geneva Academy, organized a meeting on domestic challenges in litigating economic, social and cultural rights under the principle of reasonableness. The latter principle has been recognized both by the OP-ICESCR and by domestic jurisdictions, such as Canada and South Africa, establishing a tool for more effectively adjudicating economic, social and cultural rights.

The meeting gathered members of ESCR-net from both South Africa and Canada, Jackie Dugard (Professor at Wits University and Founder of SERI-SA) and Bruce Porter (Director of SRAC), as well as most members of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, in a dialogue that highlights the Committee experts’ openness to further analyze issues faced by local NGOs and lawyers in the protection of ESCR.
