The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) published the legal brief submitted on 9 October to the State Council in Alexandria by the residents of Wadi Al Qamar against Titan Cement Company for using coal. The cement company is only 10 meters away from the residential area. The North-Western wind directs the exhaust from the factory towards the residential area. Over the years, residents have submitted several complaints against the factor and the pollution it causes. Now they are at a higher risk as the factor is starting to use coal for a source of energy instead of natural gas.

The legal brief is appealing against the decision to amend the executive regulations of the environment law that allows the use of coal in residential areas and against the decision to allow Titan to use coal. The brief is requesting the court to annul both decision, on the basis that they are contradicting with the constitution and international laws, in addition to the environment law.
