ESCR-Net member Al-Haq has been facing increased threats and harassment over the last few months. In an escalation of this situation, in recent days staff members of the organization received death threats.

Since September 2015, attacks against Al-Haq have intensified, with what seems to be an intention to smear the organization’s reputation and question its credibility. The perpetrators of these attacks and the death threats remain anonymous.

Last week, a staff member received death threats from an anonymous caller. The caller also targeted the director of the organization, Shawan Jabarin. The threats are directly connected  with Al-Haq’s work regarding the International Criminal Court. The appropriate authorities have been notified and are investigating the case.

ESCR-Net expresses its concern regarding this situation and calls on all competent authorities to ensure that Al-Haq is able to pursue its work to continue defending human rights of Palestinian people.

Al-Haq is an independent Palestinian non-governmental human rights organization that advocates nationally and internationally to promote the rule of law and respect for human rights in the OPT, through legal research, documentation and capacity building to address violations of the individual and collective rights of Palestinians under international law, irrespective of the identity of the perpetrator.
