On 17 May 2016, the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency issued an official response to demands presented by Habi Center for Environmental Rights to the Cabinet, the Ministry of Environment, and the Environmental Affairs Agency. The subject of Habi's demands, available here, is the failure of cement companies using coal to publicly release environmental impact assessments, as well as the minutes of hearings for those assessments.

In this official response, the Environmental Affairs Agency affirms interest in Habi's demands, promising to study them technically and legally and to provide Habi with feedback in relation the final decision made.

Habi Center for Environmental Rights interprets this as a positive step forward by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, and has replied to this letter by thanking the Agency and asking for more information regarding when a final decision will be made regarding their initial demands. In addition, Habi has requested that the Environmental Affairs Agency immediately announce the companies that are currently using coal.
