Otros Mundos participates in a coalition in defense of water in Mexico

ESCR-Net member Otros Mundos AC has joined with 10 other social organizations from Chiapas to denounce the form of natural resource management - particularly related to water - promoted by political parties, institutions and corporations in the region. The organizations have issued a joint statement expressing not only grave concern, but rather, an absolute rejection of practices that put corporate interests before social needs, as well as the criminalization and harassment experienced by those acting in defense of water.

As a means to confront these issues, the organizations have formed the Frente Chiapaneco en Defensa del Agua, el Territorio y la Vida to promote the mobilization of civil society and facilitate targeted actions. The joint statement also announces the participation of the Frente Chiapaneco in the "International Day of Action Against Dams and for Rivers, Water and Life", organized by the Mexican Movement of People Affected by Dams.
