Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) collaborated with Indigenous Women’s Network of Thailand (IWNT) to submit a joint shadow report on behalf of indigenous women in Thailand for the upcoming July 2017 session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

The report compares the reality for indigenous women in Thailand to that of the situation as presented by the State Report in 2015, including the impact of existing laws and policies on the elimination of discrimination, realization of human rights and negative stereotyping.

Further, the report focuses on three main issues facing the indigenous women of Thailand, according to the priorities set out by a national consultation – the first issue being that of trafficking and prostitution of indigenous women; the second focusing on the situation of indigenous women in regards to their basic social services, mostly stemming from their lack of access to citizenship; and finally the third issue related to land rights and natural resource management. Those issues regularly intersect to create a unique set of obstacles for indigenous women in Thailand.
