DEMUS, Study for the Defense of Women's Rights, based in Lima (Peru) today launched the campaign "A Father does not rape" that is intended to give visibility to cases of assault against women and girls by members of the family.

According to DEMUS the numbers of rapes that take place in domestic environments are alarming. DEMUS is working to dismantle the commonly held belief about sexual assaults that they occur only in isolated environments and by strangers. According to official information, 34% of women were raped in their homes.

DEMUS calls for an impunity and for new forms of masculinity and fatherhood in Peru, proposing mechanisms to improve access to justice and reparations for victims.

The campaign "A Father does not rape" is the continuation of the campaign "A man does not rape" coordinated by DEMUS last year.
