FoLT is a grassroots organization founded in 2009 in response to the proposal of the Gibe III dam on the Omo River, a shared river between Kenya and Ethiopia, out of the concern that the proposed project would jeopardize indigenous economies, destroy ecosystem and exacerbate conflicts. FoLT’s mission is to foster social, economic and environmental justice in the Lake Turkana Basin by initiating campaigns and advocating on the behalf of local communities in an effort to hold both state actors and non-state actors accountable.
