Centre de Recherche sur l’Environnement, la Démocratie et les Droits de l’Homme (CREDDHO)

The Centre de Recherche sur l’Environnement, la Démocratie et les Droits de l’Homme (CREDDHO) works towards the progressive realization of universally established rights, including social economic rights. Through its intervention strategies, CREDDHO strives to contribute to the stabilization of the Eastern DRC. Its actions revolve around three areas of work: human rights, the environment, and democracy.

CREDDHO facilitates access to justice and the fight against impunity, promotes gender and child protection, intervenes in the prevention and fight against torture and monitors places of detention. With regards to the environment, the CREDDHO works on the protection of the right to peace and the governance of natural resources, as well as bringing together local communities, authorities and public services. In particular, CREDDHO accompanies communities to claim their economic, social and cultural rights around the mining sites of the Virunga National Park in North Kivu province. CREDDHO also contributes to the establishment of good governance and responsible citizenship by challening the government with warnings to respect the principle of accountability and enabling local communities to practice responsible citizenship.
