The NGO Coalition for the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has released a new animated video to be used as a tool to promote ratification of the Optional Protocol.

Lucy and the access to justice for the right to education. Ratify the OP-ICESCR!

The video tells the story of Lucy, a young girl who has to fight for her right to education when her school closes due to a lack of public funding. Through Lucy's story, the video highlights that access to justice is key to the full recognition and implementation of human rights.

The video is available in Spanish, English, Arabic, Portuguese and French, making it a highly valuable tool for promoting the Campaign for Ratification and raising awareness of this mechanism all over the world. To date, a total of 21 countries have ratified the OP-ICESCR, ensuring that citizens who have experienced violations of their economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR) have access to justice on an international level in the case that national mechanisms do not provide adequate remedy.

The NGO Coalition for the OP-ICESCR has also produced a brochure and a Toolkit for Action to be used in conjunction with the animated video. All of these resources can be downloaded from the recently updated website.
