The Egyptian Foundation for Environmental Rights (EFER) works to protect the environmental and climate rights of individuals, ensuring their safe access to natural resources to ensure their protection, and promoting effective participation of citizens in the management of these resources to ensure their sustainability, preservation, and respect for the rights of future generations.
EFER dedicates its efforts to promoting the concept of environmental and climate justice in Egypt, and the region, in addition to creating a mechanism to monitor environmental and climate violations in the region, and to help address these violations, whether by amending environmental and climate policies and laws or by adopting strategic litigation to spread the concepts of environmental and climate justice among the main actors in these policies and laws. It also works to ensure the participation of local communities and women in making their environmental and climate decisions, in addition to providing them with appropriate legal tools that help in effectively demanding their environmental and climate rights in a legally sound manner. Furthermore, EFER defends environmental and climate defenders, ensuring their protection from unfair prosecution, pressure from multinational companies, and political retaliation, in order to enable them to defend effectively without fear of harm or retaliation.
