Global Strategy Meeting 2024

Centering community perspectives in crafting global crisis solutions

Strategic Implementation

Over the next several months, ESCR-Net members from more than 70 countries will come together for a series of strategic discussions online, culminating in an in-person Global Strategy Meeting: Building Collective Power to Shape Our Futures, in Chiang Mai, Thailand, 16-20 September 2024. Confronting the immense challenges or the poly-crisis of the past few years, members are eager to renew bonds of solidarity and reinforce collective action to make human rights and social justice a reality for all. Building on recent gatherings of our Social Movement Working Group in South Africa and Brazil, this Global Strategy Meeting will be preceded by a gathering of social movement, Indigenous Peoples, and independent trade union members.

Co-hosts

The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) has agreed to co-host this meeting, with the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD, also based in Chiang Mai) agreeing to help shape this meeting as part of the international planning committee. AIPP has been central to collective work on climate justice, as well as corporate accountability and economic policy, working with fellow Indigenous members and others to more fully center the right to self-determination, including Indigenous Peoples’ right to free, prior, and informed consent. Similarly, APWLD has provided vital feminist leadership to collective advocacy for climate justice, feminist economies of care, and wider development justice.
