The Center for Egyptian Women Legal Assistance (CEWLA) is one of the leading national organizations operating across Egypt promoting the rights of women and girls through direct community interventions, capacity building for local actors, supporting health, education, media institutions, and civil and youth organizations, raising awareness, and providing legal, social, and psychological support. It also works at the policy level.
In partnership with a group of organizations, CEWLA contributed to the establishment of the Egypt Social Progress Indicator (ESPI), and provided an intersectional feminist lens. This initiative launched indicators to analyze a wide range of rights in relation to several issues,
including economic, labor, education, health, urban development, land, water, and food related issues.
CEWLA has also worked to support women’s rights within various labor laws, addressing issues of working women, rural women, women agricultural workers, and domestic workers. It has tackled the impact of climate change on women, and austerity policies and debt and their effects on women, as well as social solidarity pensions.
