REMESS is a Moroccan network for social and solidarity economy – an economy that meets the needs of communities through the pursuit of specific social objectives and through fostering solidarity. It currently has 83 members from across Morocco. Members are networks of associations, cooperatives, economic interest groups, and social enterprises. From its establishment, REMESS aimed at promoting social and solidarity economy as an alternative form for development to that of the capitalist production system, thus ensuring the respect of economic and social rights. REMESS aims to:
- Advocate to integrate the social and solidarity economy in public policies and put social and economic justice as an essential approach for the government.
- Consolidate the active and sustainable participation of Maghreb civil society
- Strengthen the capacities and coordination of a Maghreb network for rural development
- Promote equal access and control of economic resources and facilitate the dissemination and exchange of good practices in the Mediterranean basin
- Foster the empowerment and economic and social integration of particularly vulnerable women
- Contribute to the emergence of sustainable, inclusive and participatory local development
- Strengthen the local associative fabric, active in social and solidarity economy
