The Institute for Studies, Education and Assistance in Political Sciences (Instituto Pólis) is a national, non-governmental organization and a non-profit civil association, not affiliated to any political party, pluralist and accredited as a municipal, state and federal public entity. Citizenship, as an achievement of democracy, is the main point of its intervention geared to the development of fair, sustainable and democratic cities.
The Institute’s objectives include:
- To help strengthen the autonomy of civil society – its social movements, entities and networks – with the objective of intervening in the political processes of society through questioning, enforcing and proposing public policies.
- To contribute to the redistribution of wealth and income as the strategic main point of public policies, based on the principles of equality, social justice and social and environmental sustainability.
- To contribute to the development of new rights and the strengthening of new and effective capabilities of socialization in the public administration, based on the strength of the Democratic State, on the appreciation of citizens’ participation, on the advocacy of active citizenship and social control over public policies.
- To contribute to the development of a new civil standard, geared to the advocacy and respect of a culture of peace; the protection of human rights; the increase of different types of solidarity; the fight against every form of discrimination, intolerance and prejudice; the cultural appreciation of the gender issue; the harmony and integration of the human being with nature, in search of sustainability.
