The National Trade Union of Domestic Workers (SINACTRAHO) was created in 2015, based in Mexico and with activities at the national level. The social objective of the union is to represent, defend and educate its affiliates while seeking the recognition of the value of domestic work through fair wages, decent working conditions and the benefits of social security. The union works towards the eradication of labor, sex and gender discrimination, harassment, and violence of domestic workers, including migrant domestic workers. It promotes the principles of respect to dignity, equality, freedom of expression and assembly, as well as the social and economic value of paid domestic work. The union also defends the right to social security and to decent work to improve the living conditions and the social well-being of the domestic workers in Mexico.

SINACTRAHO has a wide experience in campaigning, advocacy, education, political and community organizing, monitoring and documentation of labor rights violations. The main projects the union is working on are advocacy towards the full implementation in Mexico of ILO 189 Convention on Domestic Workers’ Rights and a National Education Program for the members of the union’s Executive Committee and local organizers to strengthen their capacities and knowledge on organizing strategies.
