The Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) provides a critical and unique moment to bring the much-needed reforms on financing at all levels, including supporting the transformation of the international financial architecture, its policies and structures to address financing challenges that prevent the urgently needed investment in human rights, economic and climate justice. The Conference will be held in Seville, Spain, from June 30 to July 3, 2025. To galvanize our demands, political positions and shared narrative in the lead up to the Seville, ESCR-Net would like to invite its members and allies to join a webinar on “Transforming the financial architecture to guarantee debt and climate justice”. This will be a space for mutual learning and experience sharing as we embark on the road to Seville.
This webinar emerges at a moment of deep urgency. The polycrisis—climate catastrophe, illegitimate debt burdens, and the expansion of global militarization—continue to impact many communities across the network. These interlocking crises exacerbate structural inequalities and threaten human rights around the world, particularly in the Global South and disproportionately impact women, in all their diversity. Rather than responding to people’s needs, the current international financial architecture imposes austerity and privatization, sidelining real climate solutions and public well-being.
In response, FFD4 offers an opportunity to amplify our visions for alternative economies rooted in human rights, regeneration, and care. Our communities already hold solutions to these converging crises, and we demand that states commit to a global financial framework that centers people and the planet.
A Collective Perspective
The goal of this webinar is to unpack what is at stake at FFD4 and to advance our shared demands. In this space, ESCR-Net members and allies will address:
- The intersection of the debt crisis, the climate crisis, and care work
- The impact of militarization and repression on economic and social rights
- People’s led solutions for building new economies
The Road to Seville: Strengthening Our Voices
This webinar will offer concrete strategies to ensure our voices are heard—both within the official FFD4 spaces and beyond. We will explore how to build stronger alliances, uplift the leadership of social movements, and ensure that our demands are not only visible but meaningfully integrated into global decision-making and governance.
This webinar is open to ESCR-Net members, allied organizations, social movements, and human rights defenders committed to advancing deep economic, social, and ecological transformation.
