This video explores the role of data in our lives and how it impacts our human rights. Governments collect vast amounts of data that directly impact our access to healthcare, education, clean water, sanitation, housing, food security, work, and access to land. Unfortunately, those who face injustices and discrimination are often excluded from these decisions, leading to further marginalization. Exclusion can occur in many ways, including the choices made in data collection and usage. Personal data can be used to profile, exclude or punish people through the use of algorithms and automated systems, acting as a barrier for millions of people to access their rights. However, communities are increasingly developing skills to measure what matters to them and are demanding high-quality and inclusive data to challenge governments to produce and make accessible data that reflects the true patterns of inequality that exist. Join us to learn more about how we can Make Human Rights Count by closing the data gap!
