Centro de Derechos Humanos | Universidad Diego Portales

The Centro de Derechos Humanos has as its central objective the discussion, promotion, and protection of human rights from a public interest perspective. Relying on both academic and professional approaches, the Center has developed research projects, litigation strategies, and legal monitoring and debate on key human rights issues in Chile. In all these activities, the Cetner works closely with organzations and people from civil society, reciprocally influencing the theoretical construction and practical implementation of human rights.

Based at Diego Portales School of Law, the Centro de Derechos Humanos conducts legal and socio-legal research on human rights and social justice and hosts the Public Interest Law Clinic as well as the Clinic for Migrants and Refugees.

The Centro de Derechos Humanos seeks to promote the respect and protection of human rights in the country and all over the region by studying the normative and practical obstacles that inhibit the due protection of human rights. The Center assigns particular weight to the role of the legal community, especially – though not exclusively - in relation to the judiciary’s performance. The Center contributes to exercising control over public policies, promoting their transparency and efficiency in the protection of individual and social rights.
