Justiça nos Trilhos works to strengthen communities in the Carajás Corridor in North Eastern Amazonian Brazil and denounce violations of human and environmental rights, holding the state and corporations accountable and preventing new human rights violations. They work closely with remote, local communities, including youth, social movements, indigenous, peasant and afro-descendant communities, to address violations carried out by mining and steel companies, in particular the multinational Vale. They carry out their work through advocacy, litigation, communication, and popular, political education to reaffirm the ways of life and autonomy of the communities in their territories. In 2018, they were the first ever recipients of the Human Rights and Business Award.
