Climate change is an emerging threat to international health security, and the global health community is now organizing itself for concerted actions to protect vulnerable populations.
The World Health Organization has selected "Health Protection from Climate change" as the theme for World Health Day 2008, and is promoting actions around three strategic aims: Advocacy for health security; Strengthening health systems; Promoting development to enhance health.
The side event will include a presentation on new initiatives for health protection from climate change. This will be followed by commentaries from a panel of Ministers of Health, Environment and Foreign Affairs, and other distinguished delegates, from Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe.
