Why Me for Women’s Rights

Why Me for Women’s Rights Organization is an independent NGO established in Libya in 2011 with the mission to advance women’s rights in Libya. They work to develop alternative policies and legislation that include a feminist approach and upholds women’s rights.  Why Me also works on building the capacity of women's groups, especially in marginalized areas in Libya, to be able to defend their rights and put forward demands, empowering them to participate effectively in the political, social and cultural fields. Through this work, Why Me for Women’s Rights has been looking at several issues concerning women’s access and ownership of land, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and economic empowerment. By becoming ESCR-Net members, Why Me will be an effective member of the Women and ESCR Working Group, particularly with regards to issues on land and care work.
