Dear friends and colleagues,

It is with great excitement that we announce the appointment of Chris Grove as the new Director of ESCR-Net.

With a long trajectory of advocacy and research in the field of economic, social and cultural rights, Chris brings deep understanding and experience to this position. Chris also has valuable history with ESCR-Net. He previously served as a Program Officer from 2004-2007, focusing on Corporate Accountability and Human Rights; Women's Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights; and Economic Policy and Human Rights. He assisted ESCR-Net during its Inaugural Conference (Thailand, 2003) and second General Assembly and International Strategy Meeting on ESCR (Kenya, 2008). In the United States, Chris has been involved in grassroots education and organizing for human rights, including struggles to end poverty, secure economic justice, and stop gender-based violence. Internationally, he has worked closely with grassroots organizations in Cambodia, India and Romania, supporting human rights education and research. Chris holds a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University and a Master of Philosophy in Anthropology from The Graduate Center (CUNY), and he has taught university courses on various aspects of social theory, anthropology, and human rights.

Chris will start his work on May 7, at a time when ESCR-Net has advanced work in several key areas of the ESCR field and consolidated important institutional developments. As a network composed of over 200 social movements and NGOs, ESCR-Net is well positioned to continue to strategically and collectively strengthen its efforts to secure economic, social and cultural rights worldwide.

We welcome Chris and look forward to his leadership through what we are sure will be an important and exciting stage of further development for ESCR-Net, working with our Members, Board and Secretariat Staff.
