Alejandra Ancheita wins Martin Ennals Award 2014

Alejandra Ancheita, founder and Executive Director of ProDESC, wins the considered the Nobel of Human Rights

According to the statement issued by the Martin Ennals Award, this award is given "to human rights defenders who have shown a strong commitment and have been exposed to high-risk situations." It aims to provide protection to defenders through international recognition. 

The jury, made ​​up of 10 human rights organizations of great prestige, chose Alejandra Ancheita  for his career of over 15 years of support to migrant workers and indigenous communities to defend their land and their rights against mining and energy transnational  companies. The note adds that Alejandra is a pioneer in calling for corporate accountability in the Mexican courts for not respecting the rights of communities.

Alejandra wrote a thank you letter to all ESCR-Net Members, highlighting that "The Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Network (ESCR-net) has been a key ally in achieving our vision and mission. Your uninterrupted solidarity, energy and encouragement have been vital in enabling us to carry out our work despite the violence and threats we face in Mexico."
