EarthRights’ new campaign to build the Mitharsuu Center for Leadership and Justice in Thailand

EarthRights International (ERI) launched a new campaign to build the Mitharsuu Center for Leadership and Justice in Thailand. The Mitharsuu Center will bring together ERI’s Mekong Region programs under one roof for the first time. Starting in a small office by the Thai-Myanmar border, ERI has come a long way and the Mitharsuu Center will be a culmination of 20 years of working to build a movement for global environmental justice.

The Mitharsuu Center will support ERI’s growing program staff and as well as two EarthRights Schools which have been run out of Thailand and have trained over 300 students on human rights, sustainable development and legal advocacy. The space will provide a means for strategic organizing, movement building and leadership development for future generations of earth rights activists and lawyers in Southeast Asia.

Named for the word meaning “family” in Burmese and signifying “friendship” in Thai, the Mitharsuu Center is envisioned to bring together students, campaigners and lawyers from across Southeast Asia in one place. It will bring this new family of friends together to build trust, learn from each other, and create collaborative strategies to protect and promote human rights and the environment.
