The Women and ESCR Working Group organized a series of meetings and events during the 59th Commission on the Status of Women/Beijing+20.

ESCR-Net members and allies refined priorities at the first strategy meeting of the Bank on Human Rights Coalition in South Africa.

ESCR-Net issued a collective letter via the System of Solidarity and Support in response to threats confronting human rights defenders in Guatemala.

A Project Advisory Group of the Corporate Accountability Working Group developed an action plan for the Corporate Capture Project in Mexico.

The Strategic Litigation Working Group co-organized a meeting on domestic challenges in litigating ESCR under the principle of reasonableness at the Geneva Academy and held a two-day strategy meeting.

The NGO Coalition for the Optional Protocol to the ICESCR called on Brazil to advance ratification, promoted the Campaign Toolkit in Arabic at the World Social Forum in Tunisia, and celebrated France’s ratification.

Via the Monitoring Working Group, the National Economic and Social Rights Initiative leads a monthly online discussion on worker-driven social responsibility advanced by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers.

Upcoming events

▪ The NGO Coalition for the OP-ICESCR will engage in the 56th Session of the African Commission on Human and People´s Rights in Banjul, The Gambia, including organizing an event on April 22.
▪ ESCR-Net, together with APWLD and FIDH, will co-host the first regional consultation with the new Expert Legal Group to develop proposals for a treaty on human rights and business, in Chang Mai, Thailand, May 1-3.
▪ Bank on Human Rights Coalition will participate in the World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, DC, April 14-19, hosting a panel discussion on human rights due diligence, as well as other events and strategy sessions.
