ALTSEAN-Burma is a network of organizations and individuals based in ASEAN member states working to support the movement for human rights and democracy in Burma. Founded in Bangkok in October, 1996, ALTSEAN-Burma primarily focuses on government economic policies on privatization, monitors transparency and corruption issues, with an emphasis on land confiscation and land grabbing practice in foreign investments and development projects. ALTSEAN-Burma dedicates to serve Indigenous groups, low-income communities, and vulnerable population such as women and youth. With a small staff setting, ALTSEAN-Burma has developed an effective training model to help local communities understand the economic workings and human rights impacts behind grassroot movements.
