AAAS holds a workshop on "Using Geospatial Technologies to Support Human Rights Research and Documentation" (Washington DC, Sep 5, 2014)

On Friday, September 5th, the American Association for the Advancement of Science's Geospatial Technologies and Human Rights Project and On-call Scientists Project will host the workshop, "Using Geospatial Technologies to Support Human Rights Research and Documentation." The workshop will take place both online and at the AAAS headquarters in Washington, DC at 9:00 a.m. At the workshop, experts from AAAS and the Human Rights Project will present how technologies, such as remote sensing, GIS and GPS, can be used for human rights research and documentation. Participants will gain a basic understanding of the technologies, as well as:

  • how to affordably incorporate them into their own work,

  • the ways such technology has been used and may be exploited in the future,

  • and how to identify misuses of the technology
