Justiça Global condemns police violence in Río de Janeiro

Justiça Global - an ESCR-Net member - has denounced as unacceptable attacks committed by Brazilian armed forces in the favelas of Río de Janeiro. According to Justiça Global, Brazil is utilizing a discourse of war to legitimize these practices, ultimately "concealing a massacre executed by the State in black territories, policy fueled by racism, and the execution of a genocide".

Justiça Global has described this militarization in various territories of the city, particularly in the favelas and peripheral areas, as incompatible with a democratic state. As such, it has condemned the racist actions of both the armed forces and the police.
