Between December 2025 and February 2026 alone, over 40,000 residents of Makoko, Lagos (Nigeria), were displaced as demolition operations destroyed homes, shops, schools, churches, and health facilities. Thousands more are facing violent forced evictions right now. Communities torn apart without notice, without alternatives, and with the use of force. This is a clear violation of the right to adequate housing. And it must stop.
