Dejusticia - Centro de Estudios de Derecho, Justicia y Sociedad

Dejusticia is a Colombian human rights organization that has a think-and-do tank based approach in Bogota that works regionally and internationally. Since 2003, they have been building an organization that produces expert knowledge on human rights, influences public opinion and the design of public policies, and supports and strengthens community and civil society organizations, bolstering a democratic state governed by the rule of law.

Dejusticia produces high quality legal and social science research, and their findings are published in academic and public policy documents, as well as in national and international media outlets. They participate in public debates, in forums, and networks on topics within their expertise. They also litigate and/or participate in strategic public interest litigation. In addition, they organize trainings for a diverse set of actors, including human rights practitioners, government officials and judges. They have an established presence in the main news outlets in Colombia, and an increasing presence in international media.

They view the law not only as a form of regulation, but also as a tool for social transformation. At Dejusticia, they give priority to research that examines the different ways in which citizens interact with the law to generate a more democratic legal culture and respectful of human rights.

The main issue areas they work on are: the strengthening and defense of human rights, in particular economic and social rights, rule of law, environmental justice, discrimination, constitutional transitions and transitional justice, and the analysis of the judiciary system.
